In 1972, when the Tampa Bay area men's dive groups refused
admission to women, a small group of women divers banded together and
called
themselves the Sea Bunnies. We still have our founding member, Betsy Hoaglin, along with many other members who have been in the club for many
years and we are ever growing. Our common goal is to enjoy, share and
protect the treasures of the sea. We are shell collectors, spear fishing
women, photographers and conservationists. Our members enjoy having fun,
and if they are lucky, the men get to join us! We are still the only all
female dive club in Florida.
Our Club always has a full and exciting agenda
including diving and non-diving activities. There are functions for every
taste - from Club theme dives to educational experiences. We've traveled
the world together, and the Gulf of Mexico in our own back yard. We've
enjoyed each other in small groups, and in very large ones, and in lasting
friendships that are irreplaceable. It's the sorority closeness that keeps
us together, and the common interest in the sea that keeps us excited!
The more each member participates, the better and
stronger our club gets with every passing year. Thanks to all the members
for their enthusiasm this year! Welcome to all new and prospective
members, as you are the future of the Sea Bunnies.
