ROWDIES

Finally, with a help from “big Ed Z” we got our new website published – www.knology.net/~oksmith/Rowdies.  Ya hoo!!   I had spent quite a bit of time mastering (?) the program “WebEasy” to design our site but I expect to keep updating and improving the content. I was surprised at the difficulty we had in order to get it to publish and Ed came prepared with a “work around” to get us over the hump.

Hey Freedivers, the Rowdies were impressed with your DVD “Oceans In Action” – Extreme Freedive Spearfishing.  I happened to place the winning bid on that DVD at the WCC/FSDA awards auction and it made an excellent program for our Rowdie’s June meeting.  We Rowdies are wimps compared with the freedivers!  Only Pat Fredette is our spearfisherwoman – the rest of us take pictures. WOW, the size of the world record tuna and other fish!  Congratulations to Chris Gardinal and Sheri Daye!!  Sasa and the rest of the crew did a great job too.

Rowdies have been all wet lately. J  My next update to our website will show you pictures of the shark teeth and bones found on our dive off of Venice on the Hammerhead May 23, ‘09.  Dive buddy Vicki Boles found a very, very nice 3.75 inch Meg  - Woo Hoo!  (She does have one found earlier over 5 inches long, though.)  I’m still waiting for something that big.  How dumb can you get to put sunscreen on your face before a dive???  Yeah, my eyes teared, my sinuses filled and the stupid mask filled with water (BOTH DIVES!) – HOW can you see shark teeth with all that?  Of course my best buddy, daughter Lori, found many, many more than I.  Ed and Pat had a good time and nice finds too!   Bunnie, Lisa Boing, joined us on this dive – nice finds also – great to have you Lisa!

The Rowdies and friends invaded Boynton Beach 5/30-31/09.  The crew and owners of the Loggerhead were super!  I love drift diving (when the current isn’t tearing too fast) – the weather was perfect, seas calm and the current slow.  We couldn’t ask for better after so much rain and storms over here. So nice to see a big variety of fish, eels, lobster and a big turtle off that coast.  Good diving, Good friends, Good time!!

NEXT DIVES:  Photo shoot 6/7 or 13th for the SOD contest!!  Mike Yagman’s Main Squeeze (Thanks Mike)

Gulf Diving on the TANKS A LOT, 6/20 (Full boat).  Expecting to see a goliath or two.  I get excited but they are becoming a nuisance now with over populating.

NEXT TRIP:  Blackbeard trip to the Bahamas 7/04/09.  I’d love to be on that with Pat, but I’m going to Namibia with Bobbie Jo and Ken.
